Third time is a charm for Gervais

If you don't succeed, try and try again, right? Seems comedian Ricky Gervais has taken that adage and used it well as a third time host of the Golden Globe Awards. And he seems to have gotten it right. The first time he was criticised for being 'too warm' to celebs in attendance. Last year, folks thought he was too acidic. This year, he got it right.

And he also managed to make peace after insulting Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie for The Tourist during last year's ceremony. He asked Depp: "Have you seen 'The Tourist' yet?" "Uh, no," the actor replied. That's it, controversy done and dusted. We can all move on now.

Red carpet quotes

E!Entertainment caught up with some of Hollywood's biggest stars at the Golden Globe Awards. What did they chat about? Find out below!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were both nominated. Speaking about her debut as a director for her movie In the Land of Blood and Honey, Jolie was quite serious and intense: "I was nervous about people in Bosnia seeing it who survived war and rape. It's a very difficult subject matter, it's done in a foreign language, and with people nobody knows. These are difficult times and people don't often want to watch difficult movies in difficult times, but it's important to revisit this history no matter, so we pushed forward and made it."

Host Ricky Gervais could not understand why there was such a big fuss about his antics last year. "I thought they blew it out of proportion last year, really. I mean, you usually have to actually murder someone to get that many column inches, and I just told a few jokes. So, it's going to be more of the same, different jokes obviously. But yeah, I'm not gunning to ruin anyone's night."

South African babe Charlize Theron spoke about how she landed a role in Young Adult directed Jason Reitman. "So, lesson to be learned: always tell dirty jokes. You never know when they're gonna come in handy."
George Clooney was nominated four times but he did not expect to win. "I predict I will not win four. So I feel that I'm probably going to be a pretty big loser tonight. That's my sense." PS: He walked home with the Best Actor in a Drama award.

Remember that hit comedy, Bridesmaids? Everyone is talking about a possible sequel, but what does Melissa McCarthy think about it, especially if we do not see the return of the original cast? "No that seems like a terrible idea. I wouldn't wanna do that. It was just so perfect, we had the time of our lives."

Desserts of gold for the big night

When you have heavy-weight A-Listers such as Angelina Jolie and Steven Spielberg attending an awards night, you want to impress them, right? So how about throwing gold flakes as a sprinkle on your dessert? As decadent as it sounds, that is what the stars will be treated to at the Golden Globe awards.

The dessert, a creation of pastry chef Thomas Henzi, is a chocolate almond crunch terrine with acacia honey, caramel and fresh berries. According to Reuters, the chocolate being used is from Switzerland, the honey and caramel from France, the Tarragon hazelnuts from Italy and the Valencia almond paste from Spain. To top it off, each plate will be drizzled with 23 carat edible gold fakes. Now that must be a rich dessert, and we don't mean in taste only.

A few presenters revealed

Oh hello, this is certainly a mixed bunch of gorgeous, creative talents! The first batch of presenters for the show have been revealed and they are: Nicole Kidman, Freida Pinto, Salma Hayek, Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen, Antonio Banderas and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Beautiful but edgy - just the way we like it

Just like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to have an outstanding score for the awards. This year, the tune comes from rock star Yoshiki of the metal band X Japan.

In a statement, Yoshiki has said: “The Golden Globe Awards are extremely prestigious, but the show is also edgy. I’m a classical pianist and a rock drummer, so it was natural to create something beautiful that also has an edge.”

“As an international organisation dedicated to creative achievements, the HFPA is delighted to have a global musical artist of Yoshiki’s stature create the theme for the show,” HFPA president Dr. Takla-O’Reilly has said.
